What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a prescription form of deoxycholic acid (a naturally occurring bile acid) that helps destroy and absorb fat. It is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” The first-of-its-kind FDA- approved injectable, Kybella® is a non-surgical option to improve the appearance of submental fullness in adults.

FAQ

How long does the procedure take?

A Kybella® treatment takes about 45 minutes. When you arrive, you will be assessed to determine if you are a candidate, photos will be taken, your skin will be numbed, and then the injections begin. The injections themselves take about 5 minutes.

Is it painful?

With topical numbing cream and utilization of Pro-Nox or laughing gas during the treatment, the needle sticks are tolerable for most patients. Kybella® itself burns for about 15 minutes after injection. Immediately after the treatment is complete, ice will be applied which will help make you more comfortable.

How long is the recovery?

The most significant swelling occurs 1-3 days after the treatment, however, you will have residual swelling for a few weeks. It is common to experience bruising following injection. Many patients report the treatment area is numb for several days to weeks but this does resolve with time.

What results can I expect?

When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Do I need more than one treatment?

Most patients require a treatment series to meet their aesthetic goals. We recommend you discuss this with your provider and request a quote.

Am I a good candidate?

You are not eligible for Kybella® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have an infection in the treatment area.
