On a basic physiologic level, our skin is the largest human organ. It covers us from head to toe. It serves as our greatest protector and separates our insides from the outside world.
Nerdy truths – Our skin is comprised of three major layers: the epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Without the skin, humans would be susceptible to a myriad of pathologies. The organ acts as a protective barrier that limits the migration of microbes and chemicals into the body. The skin regulates our temperature, receives sensory input, and absorbs and excretes materials. With genetics, health, environmental exposures and time, our skin changes & ages.
Just like us, our skin, takes a beating from environmental, physical, hormonal, emotional, and mental stressors. For some, the skin becomes a metaphor for widespread issues surrounding our identity and personal, historical and environmental traumas and perseverance. This may manifest in numerous skin conditions or perhaps inspires you and becomes your canvas for self-expression. Either way, our skin tells our story. It becomes our art. Whether it’s our makeup, tattoos, scars, fine lines, or spots…it’s our own roadmap of where we have been and where are we going.
Skin Synthesis is a safe place where individuals can come, share their stories, and continue their journey. Instead of asking ‘what can we do,’ it’s far more meaningful to first ask ‘who are you,’ ‘what are you afraid of,’ and ‘what are you hoping for.’ Those questions form a roadmap, orient the compass, & direct us towards your true north.
Our skin is the one suit we wear everyday so it’s worth investing in. Our skin health is one of the most important investments we can make. The impact will be visible today, tomorrow, next month, next year, and 10 years from now. At Skin Synthesis, I can recommend medical-grade skincare & aesthetic treatments to heal and nourish the skin you’re in. There’s nothing more beautiful than a confident and comfortable individual in their skin.
I’m incredibly honest & transparent with my patients in the clinic. Less might be more. But sometimes a little more is wonderful. The science always guides our way. We have the power with modern medicine, science, & technology to synthesize ourselves. We can synthesize the skin we’re in.
On your skin journey, the first step is knowing who you are and then building your treatments around your values, goals, lifestyle, and budget. It’s important to acknowledge these principles will change as you evolve and that’s ok. That’s why it’s a journey, not a destination. The journey to transform your skin is a trip worth taking.
