What is microneedling?

Skinpen microneedling, creates up to 3 million micro-channels as the device glides across the surface and sterile needles go in and out of the skin. Skinpen delivers clinical results by utilizing the body’s natural healing process. As the skin’s surface is penetrated, the immune system is triggered and aims to disinfect, remove debris, and increase blood flow in the tissue bed. The micro-injuries in the skin result in collagenogenesis and angioneogenesis. New collagen, elastin, and blood vessels create new dermal tissue with improved skin quality.

Skinpen microneedling has been FDA cleared for facial acne scars and neck wrinkles for smoother, more radiant, younger-looking skin. It is performed off-label for skin rejuvenation and improvement in the following: skin texture and firmness, dull or uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, signs of aging, striae (stretch marks), and scarring.

Skinpen Microneedling with PDGF+: For those seeking maximum rejuvenation, we recommend integrating SkinPen microneedling with PDGF+. This treatment leverages the micro-injury-induced collagen boost with the powerful regenerative properties of PDGF+, resulting in more accelerated healing, enhanced skin firmness, and a more radiant complexion. Tailored treatment plans can be designed based on individual skin concerns and goals, making this duo a versatile and effective approach to achieving youthful, healthy skin.

Ariessence pure PDGF+ is a natural, cutting-edge, combination of sterile, pure recombinant PDGF + HA for the ultimate skin rejuvenation. Say good-bye to blood-draws and hello to healthier, more vibrant skin than ever before.

PDGF+ is a naturally occurring protein that plays a crucial role in wound healing and tissue regeneration. It stimulates cells responsible for producing collagen, a key protein for skin firmness and elasticity. While reducing fine lines/wrinkles, it also improves skin texture and tone.

FAQ

How long does the procedure take?

From start to finish, your appointment will last 60-75 minutes. Upon arrival, your face will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied. If you elect to add PDGF to your treatment (which we HIGHLY RECOMMEND), we will prepare it while your skin is numbing. During the microneedling process, the SkinPen glides across your face and creates 3 million micro-injuries, stimulating the production of collagen & elastin. Once these micro-channels have been opened, it creates an opportunity for either your PDGF and/or hyaluronic acid serums to penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, allowing the infusion needed for cellular regeneration.

Is it painful?

When patients hear that they will receive 3 million microinjuries from needle insertions, they think it will be painful! However, the best analogy from patient feedback is that it is similar to a “cat licking your face!” Because of the numbing cream and shallow depth of the needles (maximum 2.5 mm), you can expect to feel pressure or rubbing sensation, opposed to needle pricks. You can also utilize Pro-Nox or laughing gas during this procedure to optimize your comfort.

How long is the recovery?

Without the addition of PDGF or exosomes, a typical recovery time for microneedling averages 5-10 days for most patients. PDGF and exosomes stimulate angiogenesis (the production of new blood vessels) and collagenogensis (the production of collagen). This augments results & shortens recovery by utilizing your body’s natural healing process. Recovery time with PDGF and exosomes for many patients is about 3-7 days. Keep in mind that if you do not elect to add PDGF, you will likely need more sessions of microneedling to achieve the desired clinical results.

What results can I expect?

During your treatment pinpoint bleeding may occur (this is the clinical indicator). This usually resolves within a few minutes. This is where the term “Vampire Facial” was born and you can expect that red glow. You can anticipate having a pink-red face for 1-2 days (though some with sensitive skin may experience this an additional day or two). You may experience mild swelling for 24-48 hours. By a week in, the skin is often glowing and the results are already evident. Bear in mind collagen can take 4-12 weeks to be produced so some results require patience. Microneedling offers improvements in fine lines/wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, reduces pore size and re-texturizes the face.

Do I need more than one treatment?

This will be discussed with your provider during consultation. For best results, we recommend a treatment series of 3 treatments occurring 3-4 weeks apart; clinical results are significantly better with PDGF. For anti-aging benefits, most patients undergo PDGF microneedling quarterly or biannually.

Am I a good candidate?

You may NOT be a candidate for a microneedling if any of the following apply: active infection or disease, especially if present on the area being treated; cut or broken skin in the treatment area; sunburn; currently have an active Herpes simplex 1 sore (cold sore); if you are nursing or pregnant; if you have taken Accutane in last 6 months; patients with keloid scars, scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases; a hemorrhagic disorder or hematologic dysfunction.
